University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

This one-day introductory workshop is designed for researchers at any stage of their careers, including undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, faculty and scientists at research institutions. The objective is to introduce the audience to the statistical language R and how it can be used for spatial econometrics. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop for use in the workshop tutorial sessions with R installed. R can be obtained from CRAN, by clicking on http://cran.r-project.org and choosing the appropriate operating system.

The topics of the course will contain an introduction to R packages for the analysis of spatial data. This includes data visualization, and estimation of spatial models. The workshop is designed to be a hands on and no previous experiences on R is required. The mini-course will introduce the statistical concepts behind the analysis, but a basic knowledge of statistics and regression analysis is necessary.

Participants are encouraged to have R running in their computers and installing the packages used in the second tutorial as well as downlading the files that will be used there.

The workshop will have two parts,
