Quantile Regression Methods for Reference Growth Curves

One of the oldest applications of quantile regression ideas originating in work by Quetelet in the 1870's is the estimation of reference growth curves for children. Prior work has emphasized parametric models based on Gaussian assumptions, but nonparametric quantile regression provides a natural alternative approach.
