hiya,
we went and saw spiderman last night, at the kick ass real-deal movie theatre, where tickets are 7 bucks. the movie was dubbed, but _much_ easier to understand than Training Day, which we saw in Lambarene. Perhaps the lack of slangy monologues and dependence on weighty comic book speak helped us out. it was cool though - afterward i was sad, knowing that once I stepped outside the ac, plush seat, plenty of legroom dolby surround sound theatre there would be neck high piles of trash and taxis everywhere. the trashmen are still on strike, have been for months, and good grief is it ever disgusting.
at mont bouet we got shoes, which broke immediately, and fabric for my swear in outfit - today I bought the worldspace and stuff for the house and kitchen. i am going to make garlic vinegar chicken at post, and this year lookout - i will be a force to be reckoned with. in the kitchen, that is.
we saw baaba maal in concert saturday, which was excellent - i had forgotten how good live music, and especially live west african music is.
i think i am going through the one year mark funk - I am fed up with many many many things in this country, and am hardly motivated, except to eat chinese food and pie, and am generally down on this whole place. I am still having fun and not about to leave, but for the moment i'm in the 'what difference does it make' / 'why even bother' phase. coasting. i figure it'll pass once i get back to post and get resettled - there has been too much time away from home this summer.
ok - time to go download the npr program guide so I can figure out when car talk comes on. i am psyched about this radio, but have a sneaking suspicion it may actually do more to lower my morale here than increase it. i'll keep you all posted.
hugs and shout-outs,
hannah
