August 21, 2003, Hi gang. I have some news.No, I am not getting married! I am coming home on or around the 12th of September. But I'll only be home for a month. I've signed up for a third year - in Bamako. I'll be paid by Peace Corps but will be working for an NGO called Population Services International - they do social marketing, AIDS education, family planning, and they are a super organisation. My job is to work with the communications department on their condom and family planning initiatives - they just got a 14 million dollar grant from USAID and I'm coming in on some very exciting programs. They're developing a website, and they've done work at the goldmines with commercial sex workers, in the cities with youth groups, condom ad campaigns, pill ad campaigns, a magazine for the city youth in french and bambara. I am really excited to be able to work with people that are actually doing something! My address will be Hannah Koenker, Corps de la Paix, B.P. 85, Bamako, Mali, West Africa. I should arrive there on or around October 12. I will get in touch with all of you while I'm home, if I can't manage to come visit!
